Principal Message

Principal Greg WilsonNovember 2019

Greeting Lochburn Families,

I want to begin by thanking our families for making Lochburn’s Student Led Conferences in the month of November so successful! I know our families are always looking for ways to be involved in our school and recognize our students’ achievements and areas for growth. Family participation has become better and better over the course of the past 5 years. In the past five years we have ranged from 52% - 86% attendance. This fall over 88% of our families attended in person! I am so proud that this community continues to be more and more involved! Our next round of Student Led Conferences begins March 11th, 2020 and I know that we will get an even higher percentage of families coming to these important meetings!

Student Led Conferences are just one way we recognized the amazing accomplishments of our students. This November we held our quarterly Grade Level Awards Assemblies. We honored 6th, 7th and 8th grade students that held a “B” average or better for the first quarter. We were able to recognize many students at each grade level! Our next honor roll assembly will be shortly after the end of the second quarter which is February 1st. Our students should continue working hard to get on, or stay on, the honor roll!

An additional way we are intentionally recognizing great students, beyond conferences or quarterly awards assemblies is through the tracking of student GPAs. We teach every Lochburn student to determine and track their personal grade point average. Each week their GPA grows they are given a GPA Ticket by their homeroom teacher to turn in to the main office. Every Friday, at our Friday Morning Assemblies, Mrs. Muneshige draws the names of students from each grade level to recognize publicly and reward with various prizes.

I am excited to let all our families know how proud I am of our Lochburn Band. Coming up on Wednesday, December 17th is a concert night. The Band program will begin at 6 pm in the Clover Park High School Performing Arts Center. Our Choir concert will be Wednesday December 10th also beginning at 6 pm. I am looking forward to two enjoyable evenings watching our students perform! Please join us for the Lochburn Middle School Band and Choir Concerts!

Finally, winter break is scheduled for December 24th through January 4th. I hope all our families have the opportunity to spend time together and are able to rejuvenate and reconnect.

Remember that at Lochburn it is our mission to ensure that students see themselves as successful in school and are college bound.

Sincerely,

Greg Wilson - Principal
