Principal Message

Principal Greg Wilson

Greetings Lochburn Families,

I am excited that the 2019 – 2020 school year is now under way! We began the new year with our amazing Million Father March on the first day of school. We had hundreds of family and community members greet nearly 600 students returning to their first day back at school. It was heartwarming to see the smiles and excitement this event brought to student, staff, families and community members!

We are now getting our students into the rhythm of school and classes. Our teachers are busy working with our kids setting routines, and establishing habits that will serve them well throughout the school year. As an AVID school, there are several critical practices that we ask all our families to watch for and follow up on. First is the use of the student agenda. Every student at Lochburn has, and is expected to use, their agenda. This will contain homework, daily work, learning targets and you will be able to see their goals that they have set with their Advisory teacher. This can also be used as a communication tool between the student’s family and the teachers. Next, ask to see your student’s AVID Binder. At Lochburn we stress the importance of organization. Your student’s AVID binder should contain tabs for each subject, a pouch and supplies, and all the work that has been returned over the course of the semester. Finally, look for weekly printed grade checks. Every advisory teacher prints a full grade check for every student every week. You should be able to open the student’s binder and review the work, or missing work, each week.

In addition to being an AVID school, Lochburn is a Four Pillars school. This means we define a successful student as a “lifelong collaborative learner who demonstrates character and leadership.” Each month we will teach and reinforce character traits that support our Four Pillars. The character trait for the month of September is Caring / Kindness. Students and staff are encouraged to recognize this trait in others, jot down a note, and drop the note into our Kindness box in our front office. Each week at our Friday assemblies we will draw names of students that demonstrated the monthly character traits. These students, in addition to the public recognition, receive token treats and prizes for their contribution to our positive culture!

I’m looking forward to a fantastic year. At Lochburn, it is our mission to ensure all students see themselves as successful and are college bound.

Sincerely,
Greg Wilson - Principal
